Saam Smit Towage Canada has long-standing roots in British Columbia, having operated along the Pacific coast for over 70 years. Originally known as Rivtow, a family-owned coastal and harbour towage company, Saam Smit Towage focuses on harbour towage and tanker escorts. Serving seven ports – Vancouver, New Westminster, Prince Rupert, Kitimat, Stewart, Squamish and Port Mellon – Saam Smit Towage Canada operates 23 tugs with a capacity of up to 85 tons of bollard pull.

Saam Smit Towage Canada (SST) is looking for a President. The President will have the overall strategic and operational responsibility for SST’s entire staff, operations, business plans and execution of its mission and vision. The President will report to the CEO of the Joint Venture but initially to the Joint Venture Board of Directors: 3 Saam Directors and 3 Boskalis Directors.

The President bears the general responsibility for all harbour and terminal towage businesses within Canada. The aim is to drive the company’s development and growth and to guide it toward long-term success.  Candidates for this position ideally will have experience in the maritime services industry and need to have a clear vision which they can translate into execution as well. In addition to this the President has an entrepreneurial mindset to build on an extensive network in the industry to ensure future business opportunities; this network comprises of influential stakeholders, key accounts and new business contacts to ensure ongoing portfolio management. With outstanding organizational and leadership skills, the President has to have or develop a solid strategic view on the markets and business development opportunities to result in further sustainable growth and a strong reliable reputation for the company, at the same time he or she needs to be pragmatic and very involved on a day to day basis.

Candidates for this position ideally will have experience in the maritime services industry and need to have a clear vision which they can translate into execution as well. In addition to this the President has an entrepreneurial mindset to build on an extensive network in the industry to ensure future business opportunities; this network comprises of influential stakeholders, key accounts and new business contacts to ensure ongoing portfolio management.

The ideal candidate is a strong, entrepreneurial and experienced commercial, operational and general manager with a proven track record of at least 15 years in a relevant international industrial, maritime and/or offshore environment, with a high technical innovation content and conceptual focus. He or she has an extended relevant experience in strategic executive positions, managing both professionals as well as blue collar workers, and is able to supervise and prepare (financial) management reports and strategic forecasts, and shows a loyal and consistent work experience at that level in related industries. Additionally, knowledge of best in class commercial and operational processes is necessary, as well as an excellent network in the maritime environment.  He or she is well educated, with at least a Higher Professional Education level degree, preferably in business administration/economics, etc.
