Greenpeace Protest

517 bridge

Earlier this week a protest by Greenpeace Canada saw a dozen protesters dangling from the Ironworkers' Memorial Bridge in an effort to block the safe passage of a tanker carrying crude oil from Westridge. The protest resulted in restricting all vessels requiring the Second Narrows rail bridge to be lifted from transiting.  The protestors were removed safely and methodically by a RCMP aerial extraction team after approximately 35 hours.  Mischief charges along with penalities for preventing the safe passage of a vessel under the Canada Shipping Act are expected.
